Lafcadio – The Lion That Shot Back by Shel Silverstein
Published in 1963, Shel Silverstein's "Lafcadio: The Lion, shot back," is the story of a young lion, the challenges of the machinations of society, albeit unintentionally, when he refuses to act in accordance with the flow of the natural world . This is of course frowned upon by the other lions and hunters. Since the sub-plot of this story is about war and peace, it is interesting that Silverstein was classic first published during the outbreak of the Vietnam War. Whether this is justChance is not known.
The Story of Lafcadio begins when a group of hunters to start shooting at the pride of Africa. If all the lions in the immediate vicinity to disperse quickly, Lafcadio, a young lion of the name Uncle Shelby or Shel Silverstein (after all he has to start) asks why it is that he is of these so-called "hunters" also carried will happen if it meant impending doom. So, after all the lions run for their lives, there remains only Lafcadio, so he can catchan insight into one of the hunters, as he is curious to see what looked like the hunters. Well, as a hunter and he does not come face to face, "says the hunter much to him," I'll shoot you. " Lafcadio then responds with: "But I give up", just to prove it, he puts his paws in the air. What follows is a debate between the two, in which the young lion hunter, despite the fact needs to shoot that Lafcadio is ready to hand over the hunter, without protest. After all these runs andLafcadio when asked why is it that there is still the hunters shot at him, the hunter says simply: "Because I will []."
Well, be sure not to Lafcadio not shot by a hunter, get forgotten because in his infinite wisdom, the hunter his gun before he's to load Safari. In response to this, says Lafcadio, the hunter, "I'll eat you," and if the hunter asks him why, he says, "because I am." And of course he does. What follows is that Lafcadio takes the "funnyStick "of the gun (which serves to include the hunter) and begins to practice again and again until it becomes a world-class sniper. He goes to the best in the world when a circus man discovers him and takes him become the jungle to find fame and fortune. Much later, and at the end of the story, Lafcadio is that he live the life of a successful world-class marksman and is tired of it at the suggestion of the circus man, he returns to the country proud and unitedstate with only his pride that he did not want to be, neither lion nor man, as he is not fit for either lifestyle.
One of the most important lessons in the late Shel Silverstein's exhibits in this story that we all have choices in life. Killed at the beginning of history in which Lafcadio, the first hunter met, bent on killing him, the hunter, in fact, have the choice to either kill or not, plain and simple, like Lafcadio had the choice either to run and or provide the foreheadAdversity. One could certainly argue that it was indeed the curiosity and courage, that Lafcadio NOT kept running, but in any case, he had a choice. Lafcadio whereas peace and harmony, the hunters were offered the sole obsession was to kill, a hunter is not really viable reason Lafcadio as the young lion kill was friendly and polite in his offer of peace is found in no danger.
Such an argument makes me believe that Silverstein was in fact a pacifist and therefore do not believe in huntingfor the sport. This message speaks volumes about the motives for our people, create the wars and kill innocent people just to kill them because there is no real value or purpose in mind, the nature. Perhaps each of us can learn a valuable lesson from Lafcadio after all, whose curiosity changed the scope of the killing without purpose.
Thank you for reading.
